President Rodrigo Duterte formally signed RA 11146, which declares June 18 as ‘Bacolod City Charter Day.’

The new law, which commemorates the day then-President Manuel Quezon signed and approved Commonwealth Act 326 and created Bacolod City, supersedes RA 7724, signed in 1994 by then-President Fidel V. Ramos, initially marking October 19 as the city’s Charter Day.

“After 80 years, we will now have our history in proper order,” said Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia.

In a letter, Malacañang Records Office director, Atty. Concepcion Zeny Ferrolino-Enad, said she would provide the mayor a copy of the law.

According to RA 11146, June 18 is a “special non-working holiday” in the city.

The law also indicated highlights for the annual MassKara Festival are to be held every fourth Sunday of October and October 19 would still be recognized to mark the inauguration of the first city officials./DGB, WDJ
