Bacolod City Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) President Lady Gles Gonzales yesterday condemned the recent murder of Barangay 16 Captain Nelson ‘Jun-jun’ Ligaya, Jr., who was shot by four riding-in-tandem suspects.
In a radio interview, Gonzales expressed sadness over Ligaya’s death, calling him an “active leader” and pointing out he regularly attended ABC meetings.
According to the ABC official, there were no indications Ligaya was dealing with any problems, nor did he indicate ever receiving threats on his life.
She pointed out, Ligaya’s last activity prior to his death was attending the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC), which was led by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
Meanwhile, Gonzales refused to comment on President Rodrigo Duterte’s statement during his earlier visit to Bacolod City, where he indicated a local barangay captain was involved in illegal drug activities. However, according to the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), Ligaya was not involved with illegal drugs and was active in his barangay’s BADAC and anti-illegal drugs campaign./DGB, WDJ
