Anakbayan: ROTC does not offer anything positive
By Dominique Gabriel G. Bañaga
The local Anakbayan chapter in Negros recently expressed their opposition to the proposal by President Rodrigo Duterte for senior high school curriculum to include Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC).
Anakbayan-Negros Chairperson Harlyn Alora said ROTC does not offer anything positive for students.
In response to the ‘Sagay 9’ incident, which left nine National Federation of Sugar Workers farmers dead last October, Anakbayan condemned the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for naming the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army as the possible aggressors in the incident.
According to a report on the organization’s website, Anakbayan Secretary-General Einstein Recedes is quoted as saying, “The AFP is an institution of stupid, trigger-happy savages.”
Duterte earlier renewed his calls to revive mandatory ROTC in schools and urged Congress to enact a corresponding law.
He said returning ROTC curriculum to schools would instill patriotism and love of country among the youth./DGB, WDJ
