A Philippine Army soldier was wounded last Tuesday after being shot by a suspected New People’s Army (NPA) sniper at an army detachment located at Sitio Bugtong Kahoy in Barangay Asia, Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental.

Authorities identified the soldier as Staff Sergeant Ricky Ignacio, an Echo Company member of the Philippine Army 12th Infantry Battalion.

Based on information released by the army, Ignacio was in the detachment when he was shot in the left buttocks.

Ignacio was immediately rushed to the Eleuterio Decena Memorial Hospital in Hinoba-an for treatment./DGB, WDJ
