The East Asian Seas (EAS) Congress, an international meeting on marine conservation, is scheduled to open at the Iloilo Convention Center, located in Iloilo City’s Mandurriao district, tomorrow, November 27. The event is set to conclude on Friday, November 30.
“The EAS Congress is one avenue where government heads will tackle what is best for the seas of East Asia, and that includes the Philippines,” explained Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Region VI (DENR-6) Executive Director Jim Sampulna. “Being an archipelago, the Philippines has a greater stake on this event.”
According to the official program, the event will open with remarks from various officials, including DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu and Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor, Sr.
Various talks will be conducted during the gathering, including the EAS Youth Forum, which runs throughout the event.
The youth forum will include discussions on various topics; a field visit to Guimaras; and activities led by Communities Organized for Resource Allocation founder, actress Antoinette Taus.
In addition, CNN Philippines anchor Mitzi Borromeo and The Economist Asia-Pacific Editorial Director Charles Goddard will serve as moderators.
The event is expected to attract over 1,000 delegates.
Meanwhile, the Iloilo City Police Office will be deploying 1,761 police officers to provide security./WDJ
