Iloilo City Mayor Jose Espinosa III and Philippine Coast Guard-Western Visayas commander, Captain Allan Victor Dela Vega, recently signed a memorandum of understanding on the construction a P1 million boat ramp in Barrio Obrero, located in the city’s Lapuz district.

According to the mayor, the structure will reduce response times during emergencies.

“They don’t need to go to [the] fishing port and unload their emergency boats there,” he explained.

The ramp will also improve response times in Barangays Hinactacan and Ingore in the city’s La Paz district.

“Part of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, City Mayor’s Office, and the Philippine Coast Guard intentions [are] to find ways on how to improve the response time [for] our rescue units,” Dela Vega explained./WDJ
