The Department of Social Welfare and Development-Region VI (DSWD-6) yesterday announced the winners of this year’s Regional Bayani Ka! Awards during a ceremony at the Hotel Del Rio, located in Iloilo City’s Molo district.

Winners are recognized for their contributions to the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive Integrated Delivery of Social Service (KALAHI-CIDSS) program.

Ferdinand C. Selloriquez of the Barangay Inagdangan Sur Barangay Sub-project Management Committee (BSPMC) in Zarraga, Iloilo won for improved local governance; Leonoro Roberto, Jr. of the Barangay Inyawan BSPMC in Libertad, Antique won in the elderly category; Gemma T. Chicano of the Barangay Catungan-Bugarot BSPMC in San Jose de Buenavista, Antique won in the gender and development category; Ramonito S. Sabug of the Barangay Alomodias BSPMC in Miag-ao, Iloilo won in the environment protection category; Elna Mallo of the Barangay Dacal BSPMC in San Enrique, Iloilo won in the indigenous peoples welfare category, Ma. Lea M. Carillo of the Barangay Maspasan BSPMC in Calinog, Iloilo won in the persons with disability category; and Barangay Barrio Calinog Farmers Association treasurer Ma. Alma Laredo of Calinog, Iloilo was named sustained community volunteer.

There are a total of 64, 567 Kalahi-CIDSS community volunteers in the region./WDJ
