The Police Regional Office-6 (PRO-6) over the weekend endorsed plans by Philippine National Police (PNP) Director-General Oscar Albayalde to file a complaint before the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) due to the nature in which members of law enforcement are portrayed in the ABS-CBN series “Ang Probinsyano.”
According to PRO-6 spokesperson, Police Superintendent Joem Malong, the show’s portrayal of police does not give the organization a good impression, especially with regard to the police chief.
He added, despite the series being fictitious, it still offers a bad image of law enforcement.
The PNP recently withdrew all support for the series with Police Community Relations Director Eduardo Garado declaring, “All units, offices, and personnel are advised to immediately refrain from assisting [and] withdraw their support to the production of the said teleserye.”
In addition, according to a report by ABS-CBN News, the Department of the Interior and Local Government also expressed plans to file charges, calling the program’s depiction of police as “grossly unfair and inaccurate.”/DGB, WDJ
