Acting Negros Occidental Provincial Àdministrator, Dr. Lucille Gelvolea, recently revealed the provincial government is planning a rehabilitation of the Panaad Stadium, especially its track and field facilities.
Gelvolea said Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr. has already instructed Provincial Engineer Ernie Mapa to conduct an ocular inspection of the stadium to determine which parts needs repair.
It was revealed, the rubber of the oval needs to changed.
“We have to do this to make Panaad Stadium more competitive, especially that it is has been home [to] international football competitions,” Gelvolea said.
She said the move was made in response to complaints concerning cleanliness at the stadium, which recently hosted a Suzuki Cup match between the Philippines and Singapore.
Gelvolea explained, organizers for certain sporting event, particularly private events, pay the provincial government to cover electricity and water usage. She added, organizers usually take care of the venue before events, including markers for seat numbers.
However, she said stadium in-charge, Engr. Victor Mosende, will be informed of such concerns in order to address the complaints./DGB, WDJ
