Following the recent measles outbreak at the Metro Bacolod District Jail (MBDJ) facility in Barangay Handumanan, the MBDJ facility in Barangay Singcang-Airport is also requesting measles immunizations. However, according to Jail warden, Jail Chief Inspector Ruth Estales, they are still awaiting response from the City Health Office (CHO).
She explained, while there have been no reported measles cases at their facility, many visitors also have family detained at the Handumanan establishment and the immunizations are being requested as a means of preventing a spread to the Singcang-Airport site.
The jail official noted, there have been two chicken pox cases reported at her facility but they have both been quarantined.
Last Wednesday, CHO conducted an immunization of female and male inmates at the MBDJ-Handumanan, where warden, Jail Senior Inspector Norberto Miciano, reported 25 measles cases and 13 cases of conjunctivitis, or “sore eyes,” among male inmates.
The 25 sick inmates have been quarantined in order to prevent other inmates from getting infected, while the 13 are receiving continuous medication./DGB, WDJ
