Research conducted by web hosting company GoDaddy recently released their Small Business Website Security Report, which found many small businesses are not properly securing their websites, which can negatively impact their operations.
“Small business owners lack the knowledge and their perceived notion of funds needed to more fully secure their website,” explained GoDaddy General Manager for Security Tony Perez. “Once the website gets hacked, it can lead to significant financial loss due to its effect on business reputation.”
Research also found hacking could lead to breaches of sensitive data, malware and viruses, among other issues.
“Cybersecurity is not about preventing a risk – that isn’t yet possible – it’s about reducing the risk,” he added. “It’s understandable that very small business operators handle a lot and it’s hard to make website security a priority, but taking even modest steps can make a difference.”
GoDaddy Senior Vice President for the Asia-Pacific Region Roger Chen said their company has local facilities prepared to provide assistance.
“In the Philippines, we have a 24/7 customer care support available to work with website owners to help reduce the risk of cybersecurity impacts on their websites,” he said./WDJ
