Following the recent killing of Atty. Benjamin Ramos, Jr., secretary-general for human rights group, the National Union of the People’s Lawyers-Negros, several local progressive group leaders claim to have received death threats.

Kilusang Mayo Uno-Negros head Noli Rosales said he and several other group leaders are seeking assistance from the police and the National Bureau of Investigation.

The threats reportedly came via text messages that were sent to Rosales, Bagong Alyansang Makabayan-Negros chair Christian Tuayon, and Karapatan-Negros Secretary-General Clarizza Singson.

The texts claimed the three were “high-profile” New People’s Army member and that they were “next.”

The messages continued: “Just continue because, if you are not here anymore, Negros will be quiet. You are troublemakers, making issues… Christian is not anymore in Libertad, he was afraid of the warrant.”

Rosales said Ramos received similar messages prior to his murder./DGB, WDJ
