Around 133 families were forced to evacuate after heavy rains inundated parts of Silay City over the weekend.

Silay City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (DRRMO) head Alex Muñoz said six sitios in Barangays 2, Rizal, Lantad, and Guinhalaran were affected by heavy rains from 9:00 p.m. on Saturday until 5:00 a.m. on Sunday.

Evacuees spent the night at the covered courts of their respective barangays and were allowed to go home by Sunday afternoon, after flood waters started to recede.

There were no casualties reported during the flooding.

The local DRRMO also classified the said areas as “low land” as their location near rivers makes them flood-prone areas./DGB, WDJ
