The waters off Negros Oriental were subject to two early morning earthquakes yesterday with a 2.5-magnitude tremor striking near Basay around 12:18 a.m., followed by a 2.1-magnitude quake near Siaton around 1:38 a.m.
According to a Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology bulletin, neither incident caused any reported damage nor were there any anticipate aftershocks.
Earthquakes ranging between 1.0 and 3.0 in magnitude are often classified as a Level 1 on the Mercalli intensity scale, where very few even feel the tremor.
Both towns have experienced quakes in recent weeks, with a 2.1-magnitude earthquake shaking Basay last month and a 2.5-magnitude tremor hitting Siaton last week./WDJ
