At least two people were killed, while 10 others were injured, after a van slammed into a parked truck yesterday morning along the national highway at Purok Papaya in Barangay Calumanggan, Bago City.

Police identified the fatalities as 22-year-old Jake Cabarles and 50-year-old Rolando Limaco, a truck helper.

Bago City Police Station traffic investigator, Senior Police Officer 4 Wilson Aguilar, said, based on their investigation, Limaco was fixing the truck’s tire when a passenger van driven by Benjie Gamarza slammed into the rear portion of the truck.

The helper was killed on the spot, while Cabarles was rushed to the Bago City District Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival by hospital staff.

The injured were also rushed to hospitals in Bago City and Bacolod City.

Police determined the van, which originated from Sipalay City and was bound for Bacolod City, is suspected to be a colorum vehicle.

The truck’s driver immediately fled the area after the incident, while Gamarza was detained by police and could face vehicular manslaughter with multiple physical injury charges./DGB, WDJ
