Senatorial candidate, Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos, who was in Bacolod City over the weekend to attend the MassKara Festival highlights, suggested rice importation as a means of combating rising prices in Negros Occidental.

She noted, President Rodrigo Duterte already relaxed restrictions on importation as long as tariffs are paid.

Rice prices in the province currently range between P55 and P58 per kilogram.

Meanwhile, Negros Occidental third district Rep. Alfredo Benitez called on local media to forward the suggestion to Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr.

He believes such a proposal would bring down prices to around P27 to P30 per kilogram./DGB, WDJ
