A 3.0-magnitude earthquake was recorded early yesterday morning just west of Sipalay City, Negros Occidental.
According to a Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) bulletin, the tremor struck just after 2:00 a.m. with no reported damages as a result of the incident, nor were there any anticipated aftershocks.
According to the Mercalli Intensity Scale, earthquakes that range between 3.0 and 3.9 in magnitude are considered between a Level II and III, where a few people feel the tremor, especially those on the upper floors of buildings. In some cases, the seismic activity may create a sensation similar to a passing truck.
Earlier this week, a minor 1.9-magnitude earthquake was recorded west of the city.
In addition, a 2.3-magnitude quake was recorded Wednesday evening west of Cauayan, also in Negros Occidental. Phivolcs reported no damage or anticipation of aftershocks following the incident./WDJ
