Negros Occidental Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and former fourth district Rep. Jeffrey Ferrer recently filed their certificates of candidacies under the unified Love Una ticket at the Commission on Elections provincial office in Bacolod City.
Lacson and Ferrer were accompanied by Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr., Abang Lingkod partylist Rep. Stephen Paduano, among other supporters.
“We promise to pursue an agenda and platform of government that will bring about change and development, particularly in the lives of our fellow Negrosanons,” Lacson read from a prepared statement. “Let us stand united and be one in bringing this province to continued progress and success.”
Marañon called the merger a “dream come true” and said, “I can now rest.”
“We should pray that Negros will be free from major calamities,” he added.
For incumbent Negros Occidental third district Rep. Alfredo Benitez, who was also present, he said the merger is “designed for the good of the province,” but admitted the success of the unified party would “boil down to the voters’ decision.”
“The challenge now is how the merger of the two political parties [will] work for the people of Negros,” he added./DGB, WDJ
