Former Negros Occidental Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) yesterday at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) provincial office in Bacolod City, formally entering the race for Negros Occidental sixth district representative. He will be running to replace his daughter, incumbent Rep. Mercedes Alvarez, who is on her third and final term.
According to Comelec-Negros Occidental supervisor, Atty. Jessie Suarez, he is currently the only candidate in the race.
The seat has been held by a member of the Alvarez clan since 1995.
Meanwhile, incumbent Negros Occidental fourth district Rep. Juliet Ferrer, who will be seeking reelection next year, also filed her COC yesterday./DGB, WDJ
