The southern portion of Negros Occidental experienced two earthquakes yesterday with a 2.2-magnitude tremor striking east of Hinoba-an just before 2:00 a.m., while a 2.3-magnitude quake struck west of Sipalay City shortly after 12:30 p.m.
According to bulletins issued by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, neither event caused any damage nor were there any anticipated aftershocks.
Earthquakes ranging between 1.0 and 3.0 in magnitude are often classified as a Level 1 on the Mercalli intensity scale, where very few even feel the tremor.
Both localities have witnessed seismic activity over the past couple months.
Yesterday’s earthquake marked the seventh recorded in Hinoba-an since August, while a 2.9-magnitude tremor was recorded earlier this month in Sipalay City./WDJ
