The United Negros Alliance (UNegA) and Love Negros formally endorsed incumbent Negros Occidental Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson for governor and former fourth district Rep. Jeffrey Ferrer for vice governor in the upcoming 2019 midterm elections.
The endorsement was made public yesterday at the Nature’s Village Resort in Talisay City and was attended by various mayors and vice mayors from across the province.
Also in attendance were Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr. and Provincial Board Member Salvador Escalante, Jr.
In his speech, Ferrer said he accepted the “challenge” of becoming vice governor and pledged to help Lacson in further developing the province. The former congressman, who previously ran against Lacson in the previous 2016 elections, said, despite the loss, he still considers Lacson a friend and believes Negros Occidental should be united.
Lacson, meanwhile, accepted the nomination and thanked incumbent Negros Occidental third district Rep. Alfredo Benitez for “making a supreme sacrifice.”
The gubernatorial aspirant assured Benitez that he and Ferrer would prove it was the right decision.
Lacson also challenged mayors and vice mayors to cooperate with one another.
Despite Lacson and Ferrer running unopposed, they vowed to still campaign across the province to hear the needs of local residents./DGB, WDJ
