Legaspi: It should have been understood in context

Following backlash after the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (UNO-R) broadcast of 15 videos described as supportive of the administration of former President Ferdinand Marcos, despite showing the same number of videos portraying the other side, UNO-R director of external affairs, Dr. Carlos Eduardo Legaspi, Jr., issued an apology, insisting he is against Martial Law.
“It was all about Martial Law,” he stated. “This is part of our own history.”
“School teaches you to decide which is real or unreal,” the UNO-R official went on to explain. “The objective of the university is to make [students] aware socially and politically.”
“[People should] get the whole thing in context,” he added.
Last week, the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) expressed their dismay over “Marcos videos.”
“UNO-R itself has ample material about that dark chapter in our history,” NUJP-Bacolod Chairperson Marchel Espina said, referring to the videos depicting the era in a positive light.
“Far from educating, this disgraceful exercise is more likely to sow confusion and disinformation,” she asserted./DGB, WDJ
