In response to reports regarding 60 New People’s Army (NPA) members and supporters surrendering to authorities earlier this week in Binalbagan, Negros Occidental, the Philippine Army 62nd Infantry Battalion (62IB) clarified the matter, affirming the individuals in question were not associated with the NPA.
In a follow-up radio interview yesterday morning, acting 62IB Civil Military Operations officer, Lieutenant Maria Allein Veluz, said the 60 were average civilians vowing not to support the terror group.
She explained, initial reports were “misinterpreted” and said the oath of allegiance is a program conducted by local governments to gain support.
The army official added, those who swear an oath commit to providing information on the NPA./DGB, WDJ
