Seismic activity was recorded in the southern portion of Negros last Monday, with a 2.3-magnitude tremor striking just west of Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental shortly after midnight and another 2.3-magnitude quake in the waters south of Siaton, Negros Oriental that evening, around 10:50 p.m.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, neither event caused any damage nor were there any aftershocks expected.

In addition, this week’s earthquake near Hinoba-an is the sixth to hit the town’s vicinity since last month.

The United States Geological Survey notes earthquakes ranging between 1.0 and 3.0 in magnitude are often classified as a Level 1 on the Mercalli Intensity Scale, where very few even feel the tremor./WDJ
