Two minor earthquakes shook areas of the Western Visayas yesterday morning with the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recording a 1.8-magnitude quake striking just east of Silay City around 12:55 a.m. and a 1.6-magnitude tremor occurring near Jordan, Guimaras around 5:13 a.m.
Based on bulletins released by the agency, neither incident caused any reported damage nor are there any anticipated aftershocks.
Last week, Guimaras experienced three minor earthquakes, with a 2.0-magnitude quake reported last Saturday; and two on the prior Thursday, one measuring 2.4 in magnitude and the other 2.1.
The Thursday tremors occurred within 25 minutes of each other.
Earthquakes ranging between 1.0 and 3.0 in magnitude are often classified as a Level 1 on the Mercalli intensity scale, where very few even feel the tremor./WDJ
