An estimated P4.9 million worth of crop damage was recorded in Negros Occidental following Typhoon “Mangkhut,” locally named “Ompong,” which struck the country last week.

Based on an official report by the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, around P4.8 million worth of rice crops were either damaged or destroyed in Bago City, Cadiz City, San Carlos City, and Moises Padilla.

Around 761 farmers, across 799.73-hectares of rice fields, were affected.

The department added, around P120,000 worth of damage to livestock were recorded in Kabankalan City, Candoni, and Hinoba-an.

Areas around southern Negros earlier reported flooding due to nonstop rains caused by the enhanced southwest monsoon./DGB, WDJ
