Two construction material suppliers said they plan on filing illegal detention or arbitrary detention charges against Bacolod City Legal Officer Joselito Bayatan after they were previously jailed on libel charges.

Perfecto Señeres and Mark Anthony Diaz held a press conference recently, pointing out, following their detention at Police Station 4, they were eventually released after the City Prosecutor’s Office dismissed their case on lack of probable cause.

In response, Bayatan said their case will offer an opportunity to provide “more clarificatory facts” to affirm the libel charges.

“Whatever they will throw me is very much welcome,” he insisted. “Everything was done in order and was legal.”

“I do not fear everything,” Bayatan added.

The city legal officer has since filed a motion for reconsideration.

The two were arrested earlier this month at the Bacolod City Government Center for distributing, what was described as, “libelous letters” about the Bacolod City government./DGB, WDJ
