Around 200 families in Hinoba-an’s Barangay Alim were evacuated Monday afternoon after heavy rains caused flash flooding.

Barangay officials said the rains began around 3:00 p.m. and caused the Alim River to swell, and subsequently flood three local puroks, namely Puroks 2, 3, and 4.

Flood waters also damaged local crops, as well as several homes.

Barangay Alim Captain Arnold Gallarda immediately ordered an evacuation as there were concerns the rain could continue throughout the evening.

He added, the affected families were earlier evacuated during Typhoon “Mangkhut,” locally named “Ompong.”

Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said there were no low pressure systems within the Philippine Area of Responsibility at the time and attributed the heavy rains to localized thunderstorms./DGB, WDJ
