The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) yesterday confirmed they rescued three fishermen from Pulupandan, Negros Occidental after their boat capsized over the weekend amid Typhoon “Mangkhut,” locally named “Ompong.”

Based on information provided on social media by PCG, elements from the PCG Sub Station in Pulupandan coordinated with Ric Bautista of the local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (DRRMO) and rescued 39-year-old Manuel Morales, 34-year-old Carlo Nunal, and 29-year-old Mark John Mallorca, all residents of Barangay Zone 6 of the said town.

According to the fishermen, they departed to go fishing around 9:00 a.m. last Saturday. However, as soon as they were underway, they encountered big waves and strong winds, which capsized their boat.

DRRMO, along with PCG personnel, immediately picked up the three, who were still clinging to the wreckage when they were spotted.

Medical check-ups were immediately administered for the fishermen upon returning to shore, where they were found to be in good physical condition./DGB, WDJ
