Flooding reported in southern Negros Occidental

Flooding was reported in the southern portion of Negros Occidental as a result of the enhanced southwest monsoon caused by Typhoon “Mangkhut,” locally named “Ompong.”
According to the Sipalay City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), the Cabadiangan River swelled following nonstop rains. They also reported several down trees, which were subject to immediate clearing operations.
Meanwhile, a video went viral over the weekend showing two minors climbing a tree to escape flash flooding in Hinoba-an’s Barangay Culipapa. They were later rescued and are reportedly in good condition.
Authorities found the two were picking up coconuts when the river suddenly swelled.
As of press time, there are no reported local casualties from the storm./DGB, WDJ
