The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has allowed for the resumption of sea trips in the Western Visayas after suspending them ahead of Typhoon “Mangkhut,” locally named “Ompong.”
PCG-Bacolod station commander, Lieutenant Commander Ludovico Lebrilla, said trips between Panay and Cebu were canceled Friday evening after a gale warning was issued over the Visayas, which the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration lifted yesterday morning.
Ships above 250 gross tonnage, which were allowed to sail despite the bad weather, reported high waves while crossing to Panay on Saturday. Meanwhile, their respective crews also reported low visibility while approaching Dumangas Port.
The PCG official said they did not record any cases of stranded passengers or maritime incidents during the suspension./DGB, WDJ
