A 61-year-old man allegedly took his own life by hanging himself inside his home Saturday morning in Barangay Sibucao, San Enrique, Negros Occidental.
Police refused to identify the victim, although they confirmed he was a resident of Purok Makawiwili, located in the said area.
San Enrique municipal police said, prior to the incident, the victim’s wife left for La Carlota City on September 8.
When the victim’s wife arrived home, about an hour and a half later, she discovered her husband hanging above the kitchen area.
She immediately cut the rope and shouted for help from neighbors.
The victim was rushed to Don Salvador Benedicto Memorial Hospital in La Carlota City, but was declared dead on arrival by hospital staff.
Police immediately ruled out foul play after investigators determined the victim was suffering from depression and was undergoing neuropsychiatric treatment in Iloilo.
However, the victim allegedly refused to take the antidepressant medication that was prescribed to him./DGB, WDJ
