The Negros Occidental National Food Authority (NFA) recently affirmed there is no rice shortage in the province, but admitted there is a limited supply of commercial rice.
NFA-Negros Occidental head, Engr. Frisco Canoy, said, based on daily rice consumption in the province, the supply of commercial rice is enough to feed the public for at least a month.
Canoy said the price of rice has likely gone up due to limited stock.
He also confirmed, of the 80,000 sacks of rice delivered in July, around 20,000 sacks remain, which are now being sold at various market outlets.
Around 130,000 sacks are expected to be delivered this month, although there are currently no ships that can be assigned for delivery./DGB, WDJ
