Luminos: Informal settlers are ‘qualified beneficiaries’
By Dominique Gabriel G. Bañaga
The Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap (Kadamay) yesterday reiterated their plans to occupy government housing units intended for active members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP) at Purok Guanzon, J.J. Gonzaga in Barangay Felisa, Bacolod City, with Kadamay-Negros Occidental Secretary-General Ereneo Luminos stating, even if the homes were already awarded, they should still go to the homeless.
In a press conference yesterday morning, he explained, members of his group are entitled to the unoccupied homes in the development, reiterating Joint Resolution No. 2, signed by President Rodrigo Duterte last May, claiming informal settlers are entitled to unoccupied units constructed by the National Housing Authority (NHA).
He added, Kadamay informal settlers are “qualified beneficiaries.”
Meanwhile, despite expressing willingness to meet with Kadamay leaders, Police Regional Office-6 (PRO-6) director, Police Chief Superintendent John Bulalacao, called the group’s actions last week “uncalled for” since the homes were already awarded to soldiers and police officers.
Following the incident, the PRO-6 director ordered Bacolod City Police Office director, Police Senior Superintendent Francisco Ebreo, to talk with Kadamay leaders and discourage them from occupying the homes as problems may arise if they continue to stake claims on the property./DGB, WDJ
