The National Federation of Labor Union-Kilusang Mayo Uno (NAFLU-KMU) held a protest rally yesterday afternoon, where they demanded higher wages and an end to job contractualization.
During a press conference at the Negros Press Club prior to their rally, NAFLU-KMU Secretary-General Noli Rosales accused President Rodrigo Duterte of breaking his promise to end contractualization.
He added, the president has “worsened the situation for the workers” by increasing the number of contracting agencies and destroying legitimate workers’ unions.
Rosales said they are demanding a P750 minimum wage increase due to the recent hikes in the price of primary commodities such as food, water, oil, medicine, and power.
The labor advocate also called on the president to resolve the issue of housing for those living in poverty, pointing out, the government, through the National Housing Authority, has spent billions of pesos in constructing homes for soldiers, police officer, and other men in uniform./DGB, WDJ
