According to a recent report by the Negros Occidental Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, between July 31 and August 16, around P5.424 million in crop losses were reported in Hinigaran.
The greater majority of losses were from rice crops, valued around P4.783 million. Meanwhile, high value commercial crops recorded P638,500 in losses, along with corn crops recording P3,000 in losses.
The crop losses were due to flash flooding as a result of the recent southwest monsoon.
Last month, following Typhoon “Henry,” the same government agency also reported Hinigaran suffering over P500,000 in rice crop losses.
The July report recorded nearly P1.8 million in total crop losses across the province./PLL, WDJ
