The University of St. La Salle, in partnership with the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP), hosted “Justice Forum: Charter Change and Constitutional Reform in the Philippines” yesterday at the school’s Santuario de la Salle, which featured various speakers, including former Bayan Muna partylist Rep. Neri Colmenares.
The former legislator spoke during a session entitled “Bill of Rights, Social Justice, and Human Rights Aspect of the Draft Constitution.”
Earlier this year, Colmenares expressed his opposition to Charter Change, claiming it would grant too much power to the chief executive.
“It centralizes repressive powers,” he told ABS-CBN News. “This is the worst [Charter Change proposal] ever.”
Also hosting forums were Atty. Roan Libarios, who served as a member of the consultative committee on Charter Change; along with Jan Carlo B. Punongbayan, a teaching fellow at the University of the Philippines School of Economics.
According to the IBP, the forum offered an opportunity to discuss Charter Change from an “academic point of view.”/WDJ
