The groundbreaking for the P35 million Bacolod City Drug Rehabilitation Center is scheduled to take place this afternoon at 1:30 p.m., to be led by Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia and Dangerous Drugs Board chair Catalino Cuy.

Once completed, the facility is projected to include an administration building, male and female quarters, multipurpose and mess building, and pavilion; and will service drug personalities with severe substance abuse issues who had previously surrendered to law enforcement.

“The focus of our city’s anti-drugs campaign is the barangays,” Leonardia affirmed. “We will endeavor to declare ‘drug-free’ as many of our barangays as soon as possible.”

Earlier this week, a total of 34 individuals from Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo, who previously surrendered to law enforcement due to illegal drugs, recently completed drug rehabilitation, a first for the municipality.

Meanwhile, last June, the Molo campus of the Technical Institute of Iloilo City began providing livelihood training for 66 drug personalities who previously surrendered to police and completed drug rehabilitation at an Iloilo City community change center./WDJ
