After nearly 600 households throughout the Negros Occidental third congressional district were provided with electricity through a home-based solar system, a part of the Department of Energy (DOE) Household Electrification Program, various barangay captains from recipient jurisdictions met earlier this week to discuss the second phase of the program.

Over the next two weeks, a DOE-led program team will work towards ensuring program sustainability.

The areas the program focuses on are far-flung areas, specifically, places unreachable by power lines. The program provides electricity for lighting, a radio, MP3 player, and phone charger through renewable energy systems such as the photovoltaic, solar home systems, or micro-hydro systems.

The project was accomplished through the Office of Negros Occidental third district Rep. Alfredo Benitez, together with DOE, local government units, and local barangay officials./WDJ

Friendship Builders Foundation executive director, Pastor Cesar Gallarin, discussed the importance of social preparation and capability-building as a component of the DOE-Household Electrification Program during an orientation earlier this week.
