Two Bacolod City schools qualify for ‘Battle of the Brains’

Bacolod City schools Riverside College, Inc. Senior High School and Dr. Vicente Gustilo Memorial National High School recently qualified to represent the Bacolod area in the Negros Island Battle of the Brains grand finals.

The regional science quiz bee, which is conducted by the Energy Development Corporation (EDC), saw over 70 schools participate in the semifinals.

“We aim to continue spreading awareness on the importance of renewable energy as one of the solutions to fighting climate change,” said EDC-Community Partnerships, External Relations, and Watershed Management head Norreen Bautista.

In addition, EDC-Reservoir and Project Management Division senior manager Vicente D. Omandam, Jr., who opened the competition, noted, “This battle of the brains is our way of encouraging the youth to pay attention to the environment.”

Among the topics to be tackled in the competition include renewable energy, the environment, biodiversity, climate change issues and policies, and pertinent current events.

Meanwhile, other semifinals are still scheduled throughout Negros, including tomorrow in Bago City, August 15; Kabankalan City on August 17; Bais City on August 23; and Dumaguete City and Valencia on August 24./DGB, WDJ
