Miranda: I did not regret what I did

A senior citizen from Maasin, Iloilo surrendered to police over the weekend after shooting and killing his son, 37-year-old Felimon Miranda.

64-year-old Eduardo Miranda, a resident of the town’s Barangay Siwalo, claimed his actions were done in response to abuse inflicted by his son.

According to initial investigations by Maasin Municipal Police Station chief, Police Inspector Uswald Gatuslao, the elder Miranda was resting in his home when his son began throwing stones at the residence. After the younger Miranda refused to comply with requests to cease and go home, the senior retrieved his 12-gauge shotgun and shot his son in the head and right shoulder.

“I did not regret what I did to my son,” the father affirmed. “He was an abusive kind of person.”

The elder Miranda said his son earlier challenged him to a fight, but the taunts went ignored. The incident occurred after the son returned and again challenged his father.

Police believed the victim was jealous because the suspect reportedly doted on his grandchildren.

The victim’s wife said she does not intend to file charge as long as the suspect provides food for her children.

The elder Miranda remains detained at the Maasin Municipal Police Station./WDJ
