Solar-powered water system installed in Murcia

Sitio Mirasol, located in Murcia’s Barangay Caliban, recently receive a new solar-powered water system, which is expected to provide access to water for local residents.
According to Technological University of the Philippines-Visayas (TUPV) research head, Engr. Ace Zander Antonio, the system will pump up to 1,000 liters of water per hour from a local reservoir.
The project was accomplished through the Office of Negros Occidental third district Rep. Alfredo Benitez, together with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), TUPV, and the Western Visayas Consortium for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development.
The congressman said he hopes to “replicate the project in similar areas where water is a scarce resource.”
Aside from Benitez and Antonio, also present at the turnover ceremony were Murcia Mayor Andrew Montelibano, DOST Regional Director Rowen Gelonga, TUPV Campus Director Eric Malooy, Barangay Caliban Captain Antonio Luis Gonzaga, and Purok President Rizalde Melchor./WDJ
