The New People’s Army (NPA) in central Negros claimed responsibility over the killing of a former barangay captain in Isabela, Negros Occidental yesterday afternoon.

NPA Central Negros Guerrilla Front-Leonardo Panaligan Command spokesperson Ka JB Regalado sent the statement to Bacolod City media, stating, former Barangay San Agustin Captain Agapito ‘Petong’ Euroba “did not change his ways,” which prompted the rebel group to carry out his “sentence.”

“NPA carried out his sentence to die as punishment at 4:00 p.m. [on] Friday, August 10, 2018, in the barangay,” the statement read.

The NPA said Euroba “remained as a staunch asset of the military” and had monitored the rebel group’s movements.

The group also claimed several other wrongdoings, including “crimes and anomalies” and “not doing social services for the people.”

Ruroba was reportedly disarmed in January 2016 and ordered to leave the barangay due to animosity from local residents.

According to the NPA, he returned the following year promising the terror organization he would “change his ways;” however, he continued to supply intelligence to the local military./DGB, WDJ
