The Iloilo provincial government will soon establish a multi-purpose evacuation center in every legislative district in the province.

In the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) meeting held August 8 at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol, Governor Arthur Defensor, Sr. said the construction of each evacuation center will cost an estimated P10 million to P12 million.

“We will build five evacuation centers here, with one per district,” he said.

He said that the multi-purpose evacuation centers will be established in schools.

He added that the facility will primarily function as evacuation center; however, if there is no disaster, the school can utilize the center for sports or indoor games and for cultural presentations.

Meanwhile, PDRRMC executive officer Jerry Bionat said the structural design for the evacuation centers was based on international standards.

He said that the evacuation centers will be well-equipped with amenities including prayer room, water facilities, conjugal room, community kitchen, toilets and baths, among others. (PIA-6)
