Iloilo City is among the top three finalists for a category in the 2018 National Literacy Awards (NLA) of the Department of Education (DepEd).
The “City of Love” is vying for the Outstanding Local Government Unit award for highly urbanized city category.
Validators visited Iloilo City for the on-site validation of its educational initiatives on August 7.
“It is truly an honor and privilege for Iloilo City to join the prestigious contest for the first time and chosen as finalist. This recognition is a manifestation of our efforts as educational center which propels our promising potentials as emerging economic destination,” Mayor Jose Espinosa III said.
The team validated the city government’s educational programs as well as DepEd’s financial support for infrastructure projects.
The validators went to the Technical Institute of Iloilo City-Molo campus, Kabalaka Gallery on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management advocacies at Ker Building beside the Iloilo City Hall, and Alternative Learning System (ALS) of Indigenous Peoples Ati community in Barangay Lanit in Jaro district./WDJ
