Bacolod City lone district representative Greg Gasataya called for the improvement of safety measures on Lacson Street where there is an ongoing flood control project.
Gasataya gave this order to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the project contractor yesterday.
The order came after a car fell into one of the excavations that the project left on the major thoroughfare on Monday evening.
The incident drew flak on social media, with some netizens blasting the DWPH and the contractors for their slow working pace.
Gasataya said he talked to DPWH-Bacolod Assistant District Engineer Leah Jamero regarding the incident.
He added that Jamero told him that the several excavations on the street were now covered.
Aside from putting temporary covers on the excavations, the contractor also installed additional barriers and signs with lighting along the road.
These will ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians using the road, Gasataya said./DGB, WDJ
