Bago City will be conducting a commemoration ceremony tomorrow, August 7, for what would be the 90th birthday of Rafael Salas, the first United Nations Population Fund head and former executive secretary to former President Ferdinand Marcos.
Events begin at 9:00 a.m. with a wreath-laying at the bust of Rafael Salas, located in front of the Bago Community Center.
There will also be a photo exhibit documenting Salas’ life on the second floor of Bago City Hall. The exhibit runs until Friday, August 10.
Following the opening of the exhibit, a lecture series will be held at the Bago Community Center. Speakers for the event will include Dr. Juan Antonio Perez of the Commission on Population, who will talk about Salas’ life and work as a development worker and at the UNFPA; Dr. Arnel Genzola will discuss youth and development as exemplified by Salas; and Atty. Raymundo T. Pandan, Jr. will focus on Salas as a literary man./WDJ
