Senator Cynthia Villar, who recently visited Kabankalan City, revealed Charter Change will not be taken up prior to the midterm elections in 2019.

She added, the midterm elections will push through as scheduled, despite some lawmakers in the House of Representatives filing bills to postpone the polls.

The senator said any talks regarding the matter will be taken up after the polls.

Last month, former House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez stated it would be more “practical” to postpone the polls in order to make way for a shift to a federal form of government.

However, some members of the Senate were divided on the proposal to cancel the polls as it would be deemed unconstitutional.

Meanwhile, when asked about the recent appointment of former president, Pampanga second district Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, as speaker, Villar said it is normal that the wish of the majority decides who they want to be their leader.

“I believe that she will make good to [leave] a legacy,” Villar added./DGB, WDJ
