Iloilo City Public Safety and Management Office (PSTMO) head Jeck Conlu revealed, with coordination from the Iloilo City Police Office, the city will begin apprehending barkers on Monday, August 6.

The act is being done in accordance with Regulation Ordinance No. 2014-194, or the anti-barker ordinance.

“It is time naman nga i-strictly implement naton ang aton anti-barker ordinance (It is time for us to strictly implement our anti-barker ordinance),” he stressed.

The PSTMO chief noted, complaints have been brought forward regarding barkers, including causing disruptions on the road.

Former Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog previously provided P5,000 in livelihood assistance in order to barkers to take up a different trade; however, they have since returned.

The ordinance punishes individuals caught operating as barkers with three to six months in jail./WDJ
