The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecasts rainy weather conditions for the western section of the Visayas, especially Negros Occidental, over the next few days due to an enhanced southwest monsoon.

Based on a PAGASA weather bulletin issued yesterday, the rains are coming from a low pressure system located outside the Philippine area of responsibility, two storm systems located northeast of Taiwan, and a super typhoon located 1,995 kilometers east of Luzon.

The three weather systems are expected to enhance the southwest monsoon, which may bring moderate to heavy rains.

The entire region may also experience moderate to occasional strong winds, along with warnings regarding moderate to rough seas for small seafaring vessels.

PAGASA also urged residents living near rivers or creeks to be cautious of possible flooding, while those living in the mountains were advised about possible landslides.

Meanwhile, the heavy rains flooded several roads throughout Bacolod City, causing traffic and stranding hundreds of commuters.

Among the roads reporting flooding last night included Lacson Street, from 10th Street to Ramos Street; Magsaysay-Araneta Streets; Circumferential Road near the Bacolod Government Center; Lacson Street in front of Robinsons Place Bacolod; and Hilado Street.

At Magsaysay-Araneta Streets, several vehicles stalled, while others were forced to turn back.

As of press time, the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office has yet to announce if classes would be suspended./DGB, WDJ
